7 Notable factories in Bac Ninh, Vietnam – FDI highlights

Strategically located within the Northern Key Economic Region, Bac Ninh boasts a prime geographical position, well-developed industrial infrastructure, and effective investment attraction policies. Over more than 25 years of development, it has emerged as a premier hub for modern electronics manufacturing in Vietnam.

The presence of global technology giants such as Samsung, Amkor, Foxconn, Hitachi, and Johnson Health Tech has created a large-scale electronics production ecosystem in the province. These firms have not only transformed Bac Ninh’s economic structure but have also developed intricate supply chains and supporting industries. Most notably, the Samsung complex in Bac Ninh, with billions of dollars in investment, has transformed the province into a global smartphone manufacturing powerhouse.

Thanks to sound strategies and competitive advantages, Bac Ninh has maintained its leadership in Vietnam’s electronics industry and is now targeting its transformation into a high-tech industrial city by 2030.

Below are seven major factories in Bac Ninh that have become magnets for foreign direct investment (FDI).

7 Factories in Bac Ninh – An attractive destination for FDI enterprises

Samsung

Samsung's factory

Samsung’s factory is located in Yen Phong 1 Industrial Park, with a total investment of up to USD 2.5 billion.

Located in Yen Phong I Industrial Park, the Samsung Electronics Vietnam (SEV) plant is one of the largest in the province. Licensed on March 25, 2008, and operational since April 2009, SEV spans 110 hectares and represents an investment of USD 2.5 billion [4].

This facility is one of Samsung’s most advanced global centres for mobile phone assembly and component manufacturing, producing up to 11 million devices monthly. It ranks as Samsung’s second-largest smartphone production site globally, after its factory in Gumi, South Korea.

To date, Samsung operates four factories in Vietnam, with SEV (Bac Ninh) and SEVT (Thai Nguyen, launched in 2013 with a USD 5 billion investment) serving as key strategic manufacturing bases. Combined, these two sites employ over 110,000 workers and account for more than 50% of Samsung’s global smartphone output [3].

In September 2024, Samsung reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Bac Ninh by signing an MoU to expand its display and electronics component manufacturing operations with an additional USD 1.8 billion investment [1].

According to Choi Joo Ho, General Director of Samsung Vietnam, the decision to choose Bac Ninh as Samsung’s first production base in the country was based on factors including its favorable location, political-economic stability, and high-quality workforce (baochinhphu.vn, 2022) [2].

A favorable geographic location, a stable political-economic foundation, and a high-quality workforce are key reasons why Bac Ninh is an ideal destination for the group’s long-term investment strategy.

Foxconn

Foxconn's factory

Foxconn’s factory in Bac Ninh focuses on computers, phones, and electronic devices.

Foxconn has underscored its long-term investment strategy in Vietnam through its latest project at the Nam Son – Hap Linh Industrial Park in Bac Ninh.

With an investment of USD 383 million (VND 9,456.75 billion), the “FCPV Foxconn Bac Ninh Factory” is designed as a modern center for producing circuit boards and electronic components, with an annual capacity of 2,793,000 units (approx. 2,989 tons). The factory occupies over 142,000 m², marking a major step in Foxconn’s northern Vietnam expansion [6].

Besides Nam Son – Hap Linh, Foxconn also operates facilities in Que Vo, Dai Dong – Hoan Son, and VSIP Bac Ninh. The company focuses on three core sectors: computers, mobile phones, and home electronics, supplying major global tech brands [5].

As of February 2024, Foxconn’s total investment in Vietnam has reached USD 3.2 billion, with Bac Ninh remaining a top strategic destination [7]

With well-planned investment, advanced technology, and large-scale operations, Foxconn’s presence reinforces Bac Ninh’s position as a modern industrial hub, attracting high-quality FDI into Vietnam.

Canon

Canon's factory

Canon currently operates two factories located in Que Vo and Tien Son Industrial Parks in Bac Ninh Province.

Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd., a 100% foreign-owned export enterprise under Japan’s Canon Group, was established on April 11, 2001, with an investment capital of USD 306.7 million. Licensed by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (License No. 2198), it has become one of the leading printer manufacturers in Vietnam [8].

In Bac Ninh, Canon operates two large-scale factories in Que Vo and Tien Son Industrial Parks:

  • Que Vo Factory: Specializing in laser printer production, operational since 2007. It covers 200,000 m² of land, with 120,000 m² of workshop space, and has a monthly capacity of 700,000 units (8.4 million per year), making it Canon’s largest plant in Vietnam [10].
  • Tien Son Factory: Produces both inkjet and laser printers. It also spans 200,000 m² of land and 64,000 m² of workshop space, contributing significantly to Canon’s export volume [10].

Over 15 years of operation, Canon has three factories in Vietnam, employing around 21,000 people. In Bac Ninh alone, its workforce includes 3,000 local employees. Canon’s products are primarily for export, enhancing Vietnam’s position in the global office equipment manufacturing market [9].

With a sustainable development strategy, advanced technology, and long-term presence in Bac Ninh, Canon remains a prime example of the province’s favorable, stable, and attractive investment environment for leading multinational corporations.

Amkor

Amkor's factory

The world’s largest semiconductor factory by Amkor is located in Bac Ninh.

On October 11, 2023, South Korea’s Amkor Technology inaugurated the world’s largest semiconductor packaging and testing facility in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park, Bac Ninh. This milestone underscores Bac Ninh’s shift toward attracting high-tech FDI [12].

Initially announced in November 2021, the project involves a total investment of USD 1.6 billion, to be carried out in three phases. Phase I alone accounted for USD 520 million. Spanning 23 hectares, the plant focuses on assembly, testing, and advanced System-in-Package (SiP) solutions for global electronics and semiconductor clients [13].

In July 2024, Amkor increased its capital by an additional USD 1.07 billion – 11 years ahead of its original schedule – bringing the total investment to USD 2.67 billion. The facility is expected to employ around 10,000 workers by 2035 [12].

Operations commenced in Q3/2024, generating export revenue of VND 337.5 billion in its first year. The initial phase focuses on high-end chip packaging and testing. Production capacity is set to grow from 1.2 billion to 3.6 billion units annually, with output volume increasing from 420 to 1,600 tons [12].

The expansion, scheduled for September 2025, will include modern plating lines and wastewater and emissions treatment systems, all compliant with international environmental standards [12].

As all products from Amkor Vietnam are for export, the factory significantly contributes to Bac Ninh’s high-tech industrial exports and strengthens its position in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Goertek Vina

Electrical design standards for factories are strictly applied to ensure safety, operational efficiency, and energy optimization. As a major manufacturing hub in the region, the Bac Ninh factory will supply products to markets in Asia–Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa, contributing to improved power system performance while minimizing environmental impact [17].

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Bruno Melles, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy’s Transformer Business Unit, emphasized: “The opening of the Bac Ninh factory will support our efforts to advance the global energy system to be more sustainable, flexible, and secure.” (Hitachi Energy Inaugurates Transformer Factory in Bac Ninh, 2025) [16]

Notably, Hitachi Energy is committed to sustainable development, with the factory achieving LEED Gold certification—one of today’s most prestigious green building standards. All operations at the site are powered by 100% electricity not generated from fossil fuels, complemented by various eco-friendly solutions such as high solar reflectance index (SRI) roofing materials, rainwater harvesting systems, wastewater recycling, and air quality monitoring using CO₂ sensors [16].

Johnson Health Tech

Johnson Health Tech's factory in Bac Ninh

Johnson Health Tech’s factory in Bac Ninh specializes in manufacturing home fitness equipment.

As one of the world’s leading fitness equipment manufacturers, Johnson Health Tech has chosen Bac Ninh as a key production base in Southeast Asia. Since 2019, the company has invested in its first factory in Thuan Thanh II Industrial Park, occupying 10 hectares with a total investment of USD 50 million. The facility focuses on manufacturing home fitness equipment under the Horizon and Matrix retail brands, generating approximately USD 60 million in annual revenue [18].

Building on this success, Johnson Health Tech is expanding with a second factory in Thuan Thanh I Industrial Park, scheduled to commence construction in Q1/2025 and begin operations in 2026. The new facility will span 20 hectares, with a total investment of up to USD 100 million, and is expected to create 2,000 to 3,000 jobs while contributing an estimated USD 120 million in annual revenue [18].

The strategic location of Thuan Thanh I Industrial Park adds further value. Developed by Viglacera Corporation with nearly VND 2,850 billion in capital, the park is situated across the wards of Ninh Xa, Tram Lo, and Nghia Dao, and directly connects to National Highway 38 and Ring Road 4 — key transport corridors linking Bac Ninh to the Hanoi metropolitan area and major industrial zones [18].

Bac Ninh: Compact in size, vast in industrial impact

Despite being the smallest province in Vietnam by area, Bac Ninh has emerged as one of the country’s leading industrial hubs. With a strategic vision, the provincial government has long identified industrial development as a key driver of socio-economic growth. To date, Bac Ninh has planned and developed 15 concentrated industrial parks (IPs) covering a total area of 6,847 hectares, of which 9 are already operational, with an occupancy rate exceeding 81%. This demonstrates the province’s strong commitment to prioritizing land and resources for industrial development.

Among these, Yen Phong IP and VSIP Bac Ninh stand out.

  • Yen Phong Industrial Park – one of the largest and most successful industrial zones in Northern Vietnam – is home to Samsung Electronics’ billion-dollar manufacturing complex. The presence of Samsung has attracted a wide network of supporting vendors, forming a robust and dynamic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
  • VSIP Bac Ninh, by contrast, stands out for its well-integrated, modern master planning that aligns with international standards. It has successfully drawn investment from numerous companies based in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and others, including Canon, Microsoft, and Maple. The park offers an ideal location for investors in high-tech industries, software development, apparel manufacturing, and supporting industries.

Bac Ninh is steadily establishing its position as the industrial capital of Northern Vietnam, with core strengths in electronics, telecommunications, and high technology. Multinational corporations such as Samsung, Canon, and Foxconn have not only selected Bac Ninh as a manufacturing base but have also integrated it as a critical link within their global supply chains.

Amid robust industrial growth, Bac Ninh continues to attract a growing number of businesses seeking high-quality factory space to expand production. In response to this trend, KTG Industrial offers modern, cost-efficient factory leasing solutions designed to meet the evolving needs of both domestic and international investors in Bac Ninh.
